There are two official languages in New Shetland , English and Spanish. Some 81% claim that English is their mother tongue, and 97% state that they speak it fluently or reasonably fluently. About 10% speak Spanish as mother tongue, 4% claim that they speak one of the Chutean, Bavanda (Harvian), Asalend, Krai or Aleut native tongues. The native languages are recognized as minority languages and can be used to adress a formal instantion in the states of Northern, Uplands, Mount Errigal and to a limited extent in the districts of the Harvian Islands; Reefs, Maritima, Northern and Leeward and Princeton.
