The Conservative Party of New Shetland is a conservative Christian political party. It is one of the two principal parties of the New Shetlandian political system, alongside the Liberal Democratic Party. The Conservative Party of New Shetland exists since 1923, when New Shetland was formed. The party is opposed to abortion, gay marriage, soft drug legalization and, counter-intuitively, the death penalty. The party has been named one of the more "intelligent conservative parties in the world" but is criticised for its patriarchal system of choosing candidates for the election, favoring men over women on its candidate lists and it has been accused of nepotism in the 1970s and the 1980s.
